You all are
amazing! Thank you so much for sending
in art supplies and play dough toys! The
kids are thrilled and we are stocked. We
so appreciate your generosity.
This week
we have done a lot of fun things. We did
some fun things to learn each other’s names.
We made lots of class books for us to read together that will help us
get to know each other better. We also
made a torn paper letter art with our names.
They sure do brighten up our room!
At Beulah
Ralph we want our students to be kind, respectful, responsible, positive and a
problem solver. These are big words and
ideas. We have been working on
understanding these words. We have
focused on one each day. Here are some
of our ideas. (This is our sloppy copy. It will be neat and complete with pictures when we finish and hang it up!
I am
totally impressed at how well the kids are able to articulate their ideas about
these big words. To show that we will
strive to do these things we used paper collage and created a self-portrait. These will hang on our wall all year as a
promise to each other that we can do it.
We are
beginning to learn about letter formation.
Many of the kids have a great base of letter knowledge by site. Now we are working on how to form these
letters. We are using whiteboards to
help us learn this. T is our first letter! Ask your child to tell you about how we make
our ts.
In math we
are working on counting objects and saying one number for each object. We played a partner game that helped us do
this. (I can't get the video to load! For some reason it is flattening when I publish it. So at least you can see a really cute picture.)
We also
took a number walk. We looked for places
around our school where we see numbers.
We did a great job! Check out
some of the places we see numbers. Next week,
I will add pictures to go with our words so they kids can read them too.
By far our
favorite time of day is our choice time.
The kids can choose between kitchen, Legos, play dough, art, books,
animals and blocks, snap cubes and pattern blocks. Next week we will add puzzles and possibly
painting! (If I’m feeling brave!)

Next week, I would love to have each kid share a picture of his or her family. We will take turns sharing these and then I would like to keep them in cubbies as a way to help make the kids make their cubbies their own. Please send a picture of your family some time next week. I plan to laminate them so please do not to send originals. The daily take home folder is a great place to send it in. We will be sharing them all week.
This week we started Daily Take Home Folders. Please check them each night and return them to school the next day. Today I added a reading log in the pocket on the back of the folder. Our only homework this year will be to read at home. Please read to your child each day and log what you read. Reading together is a great way to connect with your child and help your child develop a love of books. Keep the log in the pocket on the back of the Daily Take Home Folder. I will trade the page our each month. Thanks for all your support!
I have so enjoyed your kids this week! Have a
wonderful weekend!
