Highlight Reel #11

Monday, November 7, 2016
I just found this sitting my drafts!  Sorry everyone.  This is last week's highlight reel a little belated.  :)

This week got lots of reading groups and math groups too!  In reading group, we got books that were just right for us.  We practiced pointing to the words while we read.

During shared reading we learned about retelling parts of the story in order.  We read a book called, “Sunflower” and practiced retelling the story to a partner.

In math groups, each group focused on a different skill.  Some of us practiced counting objects or on a 100s chart. Some of us practiced writing our numbers and knowing the difference between the teens and other numbers.  Some of us practiced adding using counting all and counting on.  While groups worked with me, everyone else played math games with a partner, did math by themselves with pattern blocks or comparing two numbers and some used ST math.  We will add Osmos as a technology choice next week.

We saw lots of friends at the PTA Lego movie!  It was a fantastic time.

Choice time is not only fun but it is a great chance for our kids to practice social skills.  They learn about sharing, and interact with peers appropriately, how to work together, persevere with tasks, focus attention and control emotion especially when they don’t get the choice or toys that they want!  It might seem like play but this important time allows our kids to practice these things in a safe predictable environment.

We had two birthdays this week!  Happy birthday friends!  Thanks for sharing treats!

Welcome to Mrs. Wright’s class to our newest classmate!  We are glad you are here!

General Announcements:
  • ·       You might notice that I haven’t been sending star cards as much anymore.  As the year progresses, the kids are getting used to the routines and expectations and are not needing the direct visual reinforcement as often.  We are doing lots of group stars and focusing on how we can improve our behavior choices.
  • ·       Looking forward to seeing you at conferences!  If you need another time please let me know.  I sent progress reports home in this week’s Friday Folder.  We will go over it at conferences along with other observations about your child’s learning.  If you have anything specific that you’d like me to discuss, send me an email and I’ll make sure to include it!
  • ·       Veteran’s Day/grandparents day is coming up.  Please return the RSVP if you haven’t already.  We want to make sure we can accommodate everyone.  If you have pictures of family members that were in the service please send those attached to the blue form asap.  We are excited to get those hung up and celebrate all of our wonderful service men and women.
