Can it really be week four!? These little darlings have really done a fabulous job following our rules and expectations. It was counselor week this week. Our counselor brought us a really great lesson for keeping us safe. We learned about the three Rs. When you are in a situation and you're unsure, Use the 3 big Rs. First Recognize: Think, "Is it safe? Does it break a rule?" If you think it's not safe or that it breaks a rule then you use the 3 big Rs, then refuse. After you refuse, go report to an adult. She helped us think through some situations to decide what we would do. For example, finding a gun, playing with fire, not wearing a seat belt, finding a random dog, swim without an adult..
Here's our learning objectives for the week:
Social Skills: Voice Level in the classroom, how to sit at group
Poetry: Pointing 1-1. Finding words in the peom called Yellow. Adding the word yellow to the word wall.
Reading: Pointing 1-1. Read to self quietly the whole time. We read added an N& M book to our book box.
Fundations: N & M Letter name, sound and letter formation.
Math: Counting objects 5, 6, 7. Recognizing numbers of objects without counting.
Next week we will start our Daily 5 literacy rotations! We have done all the components separately as a class. We will put it all together next week. There will be 10 centers with two kids at each center.
Here's our week in pictures!
Practicing our write the room center. This helps with vocabulary and handwriting.
We showed 5 using lots of different manipulatives. Ask your child to show if you if his/her work is featured.
Practicing read to self. This little darling is reading from her poetry journal.
Here's our poem of the week! We take turns pointing to the words as the class reads the poem. We make sure to point to each word as we read it.
We even use our pointer pencils to try it in our poetry journals.
We learned about 5 frames his week. We used counters to come up with different arrangements for 3,4, and 5.
We are writers! We got to try out writing in lots of places around the room. We drew stories and some of us even added words to our stories!
At the end of our writing time, one or two friends come to the teacher spot and share their work.
After hearing the story, we share about things she did well and ask her questions. She got lots of ideas for what she can add tomorrow!
Happy birthday friend! Thanks for sharing treats!
We read a book called, "The Rainbow Fish". We learned about the importance of being kind to others. Then we made our own rainbow fish to hang in our room to help us remember to be kind to all our friends too!
