This week was packed full of fun. Monday was the 100th day of school! We had a 100 year old "sub" named Mrs. Wrong. The kids tried all day to look for clues that it was really me! I played the character well and they were intent on "figuring it out". On Friday we met with our buddy classes to celebrate being kind with some buddy reading and matching colors.
Here are our learning objectives for the week:
Reading: Identifying no excuse words in poems and familiar books. Retelling non-fiction books by telling facts that you learned.
Fundations: Segmenting and blending three letter words to read and write. Writing: a sentence that was dictated to include spaces, no excuse words and three letter words.
Writing: We learned about the structure of a non-fiction teaching book. We learned about how to begin your by by grabbing the readers attention with a sound. Next you write three facts and end by wrapping up your book. This is a huge jump from our previous work in narrative writing and the kids are exited for the challenge. It took us a few days to work on a book! We will continue to build stamina with this.
Character Education: Kind - We read lots of books about being kind. One of our favorite books we read is, "How Full is your Bucket for Kids". We referred back to it all week as we tried to fill each others buckets with kind words and actions.
