Busy week!

This week we had so many things that were out of our normal routine.  There was something daily!  Monday we had a sub.  I heard they were fabulous.  Tuesday we had a hand washing lesson with our nurse.  Wednesday we had counselor.  This happens every other week.  Thursday was a fun non-schedule day due to missing our field trip.  And Friday we had a visit from a fire truck and decorated pumpkins with a first grade class!  Even with all that we managed to do some great core learning too.

This week's objectives:
Reading: One to One matching.  Finding the in our "Five Little Pumpkins" book.  Rhyming, Letter name fluency
Writing:  Beginning and ending sounds
Math:  Counting with one to one matching, describing rectangles
Fundations:  Letter ID and Sound e,r
Science:  Living and Non-living, what plants and animals need to survive

Here's our week in pictures:

Counselor lesson with Mrs. Davison about bullying.

Thank you Mrs. Croom for sharing your bearded Dragon!  His name is Smog.

We had some free choice time on Thursday instead of the field trip.  The kids got to choose anything in the classroom that they'd like to do.  It was super fun.

These friends are sorting what plants, dogs and humans need.  This was just a practice activity.  So if you see things in the wrong place know that we have lots of learning left to do!  :)

We had special treats on our fun filled non-field trip day too!  Thank you to our wonderful parent who donated them!

This week is also fire safety week.  We had a visit from fire fighters to learn a little more.

We had another fabulous donation!  We had planned to decorate pumpkins with first grade on Friday.  Without our field trip on Thursday we didn't think we would be able to keep this commitment.  We were very appreciative of the family that donated so we could still join in on the fun!

These two little cuties were proud of their creations.

Small groups this week!

This week we began our small group instruction in reading and math.  Our class has been doing so well staying focused during Daily 5 time that they were ready to be independent while I worked with small groups of students.  This is my favorite part of the day.  This is when we really get to focus in on skills that are just right for your child.  Groups are flexible and can change depending on what skills each student needs.  This week the different literacy groups focused on letter ID, letter sounds, reading 3 letter words and rhyming.

Next week we will be going on our field trip to Peach Tree Farm on Thursday.  Most of our students are bringing their lunch.  When you pack your child's lunch please put it in a large Ziploc bag with their name on the outside.  Please make sure that all the things in the bag can be thrown away.  This makes it very easy for us to tackle lunch away from school.  Thank you to all that have volunteered to help!  Volunteers please check your emails for more information about our trip.

Thank you everyone that helped supply our classroom with magazines, snacks and play dough!  The kids were so excited about the addition of the play dough.  Lots of great things were made this week.  :)
