This week during shared reading we made lots of predictions and connections. We read, "The Mitten" by Jan Brett. We also read, "The Hat". We made connections between these two books and used what we remembered from "The Mitten" to help us predict what happened in, "The Hat". If you haven't had a chance to check out these books, they are amazing!
During our literacy rotation time, one of our rotations was write around the room. For this, the kids used clip boards to search for words from the story, "The Mitten" At another rotation the kids practiced rainbow writing c, o and a. During this time, they also do Osmos, listen to reading with Myon Reader and Pebble Go, work on literacy puzzles, write independently, read books from our library and play word games. It is pretty wonderful to see how independent our kiddos can be during this time. The kids really enjoy literacy rotations!
We have worked really hard in writing. We are learning about including who, what and where the story happened both in our pictures and our words. We have some proud writers in our class! (Sorry about the terrible picture quality!)
In math we have been working hard on counting. We have been counting objects and also writing numbers. Many groups worked on writing numbers as high as each kid could go. We used 100s charts to make sure that all of our numbers were written correctly and not backwards.
We had another birthday this week too! Thanks for sharing treats! Happy birthday friend!
Announcements:
- This week in the Friday Folder, there was a note and a bag to use to share your family traditions. After asking all of you about your celebrations, I thought it would be great to allow the kids to share the traditions and be proud of your family celebrations. Thank you for working on this, this weekend. We will share them little by little over the next week.
- It is very cold! We go outside most days unless our office decides it is too cold for us to go out. Please send your child with a warm coat and hat and gloves or mittens. It would be great if you could practice zipping too!
