We have lots of things coming up! Most of this post will be devoted to upcoming events with a few notes about our learning this week.
Learning Objectives
Phonics: Spelling words with digraphs. (Lots of us are using them in our writing and recognizing them in our reading!)
Reading: We are shifting back to fiction. This week we read, "The Salamander Room" and "A Tree Named Steve". We discussed how fiction means a made up story. Then we looked for reasons why these books were fiction.
Writing: We worked hard to pull together our non-fiction books using a checklist to help us remember all the things we need to include. We write with a beginning, middle(with three facts) and an end. But that's not all! They also are working to remember to use a capital to start, punctuation throughout and to use a diagram to teach more about their topic! It is a big task! And when I think back to the beginning of the year, I am just in awe of what these little lovelies are able to accomplish.
Math: We played two games to work on our facts to ten. We played a game called, Tens Go Fish and Turn Over 10. We also made a rainbow to 10 to help us practice these facts.

Lunch Bunch (We had a picnic and watched Kenny the Shark. I'm going to try to get a lunch bunch in with everyone before the end of the year!)
Tens Go Fish (This is just like Go Fish only instead of matches you make pairs that equal 10 when added. If you've got a deck of cards you can play this at home!)
Upcoming Events:
- Next Thursday, Friday and following Monday, I will not be at school. I have a trip planned with some friends and I am looking forward to it! That being said, I will miss our singing program which I am very sad about. When we booked our trip we didn't know that there would be a conflict. Our Caterpillars and Butterfly Singing Program will be next Thursday evening. Here's what you need to know.
- Drop off in the cafeteria at 6:00.
- Singing will begin at 6:30
- After singing, you can go to the classrooms to view our fantastic butterfly feeders. These will be available to take home with a donation of your choice to Missouri Dept. of Conservation for Monarch conservation. Checks can be made out to Missouri Conservation Heritage Foundation(MCHF)
- All events will be finished by 7:30
- Planetarium Field Trip - April 26 (No Volunteers needed)
- Flash's Big Top Circus will be on April 29 - We hope to see everyone there!
- Kindergarten Insect Themed Field Trip - May 1 - We will need volunteers for this one! There is a note in the Friday folder about this. It would be great if you can send it back on Monday so we can finalize our plans.
- Third Grade Service Project - Flash Dash - May 5 after school
- BEU Field Day - May 22 - Thanks to those that have volunteered to help!
- Last Day of School - May 25 - This is an early release day and also the day of our final kindergarten picnic/brown bag lunch. This will replace the one on May 12. Please keep in mind that we will have limited space this day.
