Five Days Finally!

Friday, March 2, 2018
It was so good to have a full five days this week.  We were able to jump back into our routines.  It was so nice to get back into our reading schedule with reading groups.  We also made it through a full five days of math stations.  This was new a couple weeks ago so it was wonderful for each student to make it to all of them in one week.  With hat day, crazy hair day, comfy day and dress up day, we definitely had some extra fun too.  We even got to visit a first grade classroom and read books with first graders.  This trimester our skills are really picking up.  The expectation for reading, writing and math is growing quickly.  Keep practicing at home!  Check your child's backpack for his or her reading group book from this week.  :)

Learning Objectives:
Fundations:  e at the end of a word makes the other vowel say it's name.  We call this bossy e.
Reading:  Reading strategies:
  • Look at the picture
  • Tap it out
  • Make the first sound and think what makes sense
  • Look for parts of the word you do know.
Writing:  Non-Fiction Conventions - Diagram, Table of contents, pictures with captions.  We found these in read aloud books.  Next week we will try them in our writing.
Math:  Solving story problems, understanding addition and subtraction, using a number line to solve addition and subtraction problems.

Congrats to this friend for being a top seller of raffle tickets for the BEU circus!

Things to Remember:
  • Please return your child's reading group book in the special bag on Monday!
  • We have a daily snack.  Lots of our friends have forgotten to bring a snack lately.  I have a few fruit roll ups left from the valentine party to give when kids forget but they are going fast.  Please remind your child to grab a snack on the way out the door in the morning.  Our afternoon is long and I don't want anyone to be hungry!  Thanks!
  • March 8 - Kindergarten Enrollment 4:30-6:30 - Tell anyone you know that has an incoming kindergartner!
