Week in Review #10 - Is it possible!?

We had a busy week!
Thanks for your patience with this weeks highlight reel and comments.  My sister had a baby on Thursday and we're helping out with my other nephew!

We’re rocking with Daily 5 reading choice and Daily 4 math choices!  For reading the kids get to choose what they would like to work on.  They can choose, read to self, read to someone, work on writing, word work and listen to reading with the iPads.

For listen to reading we use Myon Reader.  It is an online catalog of ebooks.  There are tons!  You can access this at home too from a tablet or smart phone.  You will need to download the clever app.  It looks like this.

From here your child can login using their school ID and Password. They have used them both in media and also in our classroom.  At the beginning of the year, I sent this information home.  If your child cannot remember their login and you would like me to resend it, send me an email and I can get that information to you.  In class we use QR codes to help us log in.  I can send those home as well.  Just let me know!

For math, we rotate through all the choices.  Math by myself, math with technology and math with a partner.  Within each round the kids can choose from a menu of choices.  One of the choices is ST math.  You can access ST math at home too!  Right now we are working on learning how to use the program so there is no homework assigned.  Your child can practice the objectives they have already covered in class.  This will help them remember their password and remember how the program works.  You can learn more about it here.

We celebrated our citizen of the month for October!
Congrats Friend!  We are so proud of you!

We wrote about what we want to be for Halloween!  We are working on using our ABC chart to put our message on paper.  We have started learning about sentences and planning for what we want to say.  Many of us have tried out a complete thought on paper!  I’m super impressed!

We've got some Cubs fans!  Go Cubs!

Our party was by far the best party I’ve seen as a teacher!  Our room parents went above and beyond.  Our kids were so happy and almost stunned when they came to the party.  It was a fantastic time.   Thank you to all who planned, sent things, and came.   Have a great long weekend!  See you on Tuesday!  Have a save and fun Halloween!

Our Little Pumpkins & Other Monday Fun

Monday, October 17, 2016 No comments
Today we read 5 little pumpkins.  We made paper collage pumpkins.  We talked about what shapes we could use to create our pumpkin.  Then we drew the shapes, cut them out and glued together our pumpkins.  We wrote our title together to let everyone that walks by know about our work!
(Here we are working on our title for our bulletin board.  We wrote the sentence together and used white boards to follow along.  Each kid got to come up and write one of our letters!)

We learned that writers say words slow and write all the letters that they hear.  After we did our writing, we told our stories to a partner.

On Friday, I sent home our first book order.  This is completely optional.  I found a few papers about how to order in my classroom that didn’t make it into Friday folders.  I have attached the note here in case it may have been your child’s paper that we found.  These will be due on October 24.

You will see some new star cards.  We are getting much better at following directions so today we added a new star card.  This star card celebrates when students are keeping their voice off at group and remembering to raise their hand before sharing an idea.  Today I gave fewer than I have been.  I am trying to pull back a little as we are becoming better and better at doing our job.  We are working hard to make these habits!

Don't forget that Wednesday is early release!  We will dismiss at 12:50.  We will eat lunch at our regular time.
