Look at us go!

We are really taking off.  I'm so impressed with how well we are coming together as a class.  The kids are doing a great job remembering our rules and routines and because of this we are able to do more with academics.  We have worked hard to be independent during our literacy center time.  Very soon, I will begin pulling small groups of students to work on targeted skills that are just right for them.  This is when we are really able to make some progress.

Just a reminder, Tuesday is school picture day.  I have received a few orders already and you can also order online.  Can't wait to see your little cuties dressed in their best!  :)

Thank you so much to everyone that sent us stickers and address labels!  That is so very helpful and appreciated!

Here are our learning objectives for the week:
Fundations:  Letter formation, letter name & sound - c, o
Reading:  Syllables, 1-1 correspondence
Writing:  Learning about new paper.  Adding words to tell about our story.
Math:  Sorting, patterns, understanding quantity without counting aloud
Social Skills:  I can use kind words.  Check out this awesome video we watched about spreading kindness.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rwelE8yyY0U

Here is our week in pictures.

We learned about emotions in counselor this week.
Mrs. Clemsen read us a great Elephant and Piggy book!

We are participating some social skills lessons called "Stop and Think".  These lessons focus on making good choices.

We have become such good writers we were read to move from blank journals to having our own writing folder.  We now have paper with a place for illustrations and a line to write words.

Check out some of our amazing sorting!

We had a special guest this week.  Monica Naylor is Beulah Ralph's daughter.  She came to our class and read a special book about her mother that she wrote.  Look in your child's Friday folder for a paper copy.

Camp out!

We learned how to use glue.  They will be bringing these beauties home tonight.  Ask your child to tell you about how much glue to use.

Happy birthday friend!  Thanks for sharing treats!

Have a wonderful weekend!

Bubblegum

Friday, September 21, 2018 No comments

A couple weeks ago two of our students found a monarch caterpillar.  One of them took it home, named her bubblegum and put her in a bug house.  In just a couple days, Bubblegum had made a chrysalis.  The student's family was kind enough to share the chrysalis with our class.  Today when we got to school Bubblegum was a beautiful butterfly.  She had just come out of her chrysalis and her wings were still wet.  We got to watch throughout the day as she gained her strength and prepared for flight.  This afternoon we released Bubblegum to the wild.  It was a fantastic experience for all of us.  Thank you to this friend for sharing Bubblegum with us.
Learning Objectives for the week:
Reading:  Finding letters we know in print
Writing:  Using a horizon line to anchor our people.  Labeling our details with beginning sounds.
Math:  Figuring out quantities of numbers without counting.  Growing patterns.  Learning about Triangles
Science:  Life cycle of a butterfly, Comparing moths and butterflies
Here are some pictures from our week!

Observing Bubblegum

We were beside ourselves with excitement.
We read this book.  Then made hats to show the life cycle of a butterfly.

It was time to say goodbye.  Bubblegum was ready to fly.

Goodbye Bubblegum!  If you look closely you can see her in the sky.

 Buddy Reading

This week our poem was called blue.  We added it to our poetry journal and drew lots of blue things.
