Short Week 7

This week flew by!  With no school on Monday and me gone on Tuesday, it seemed like the week got away from us quickly!  We still managed to get some great learning in!

Here are our learning goals:

Reading:  Predicting, one to one correspondence.  These friends are putting together our poem puzzle from last week looking for each word.

No Excuse Words:  is, it  We found the word is in our A book.

Fundations:  Letter formations, name and sound a, g

Writing:  We don't give up!  Even when it's hard.  We read, "The little engine that could".  We told ourselves, "We think we can!".

Math:  Sorting by attribute, counting forward, counting back, patterns

Here is the winner of our counting game!

Character Education:  We are alike we are different - Each week we have a new Character skill we are working on.  Last week it was kindness.  This week we are learning about appreciating and understanding differences.  We begin our day with a read aloud that focuses on this skill.  It's been wonderful to watch them learn and grow in this area.   We learned that even though we may look different and have different experiences, we all have a heart and want to be liked.  We took this picture to celebrate.

Kinder Craft:  Most Fridays we try to make some kind of craft.  These are great extensions of our academic learning and give us great opportunities to practice our fine motor skills.  Our kinder craft of the week was making fall trees.  They will hang on our bulletin boards.  We read this book and made our own little tree.  We used our fine motor skills to tear the leaves for our trees.  This book also reinforced our lesson to keep on trying even when something is hard.  Ask your child to tell you about this book!

Science:
Ms. Lisa brought some amazing creatures to visit our room!  She incubated snake eggs and they hatched!  They are black rat snakes and they are beautiful.  The kids were excited to get a closer look.

We are excited to welcome a new friend to our classroom!  We are glad you're here!

The Highlight Reel #6

We had a busy week!  Thank you to all who donated supplies to help our partner school in Texas.  The kids were super proud to take their things and add them to the pile.  It was amazing to see all the love and support that went into this supply drive.  Dr. Majerus drove it down on Thursday!  He will hopefully have pictures for us soon.  Here's just a small preview of all the amazing donations that were made.

Each month the students choose one student to be our citizen of the month.  It's a secret ballot.  They choose a friend they think is kind to others and follows the rules.  No one knows who got the most votes until the big reveal at our assembly!  Congrats to this friend!  We are proud of you!

Thank you to everyone who participated in our PTA fundraiser too!  We celebrated on Friday with a BMX bike show.  Check it out!

Here are our learning objectives this week.
Reading:  Predicting
Word Wall Words:  the, blue
Fundations:  c, o letter name, sound & formation
Writing:  Labeling parts of our pictures.  Using our picture to tell a story that sounds like a book.
Math:  Counting 1-1.  Counting in our heads, looking closely at triangles, comparing numbers
Monday's Creativity lesson with Mrs. Cardetti from the gifted center.
Our poem this week is blue.  This friend is doing a great job pointing to the words.
Don't forget Mondays are library days.  We enjoyed it this week!  We will go on Tuesday next week since we will not have school on Monday.

Lots of our kiddos have been playing "hurricane" at recess.  Those that are in the hurricane often call for the helpers.  It was too cute not to share!

Thank you to our fabulous donors!  These kids were so excited to open the boxes.

 Writers share

We sure looked cute on PJ day!

 Fuzzy feet!

Buddy Reading during Daily 5 Rotations

These two friends will show you how we played a new math counting game.  I missed the first counter going in!  (Hopefully the link will play.)

We talked about germs.  We learned that washing hands is the best way to get rid of germs.  Then we made germs using paper collage to decorate our bathroom to help us remember to wash our hands.

Notes from Mrs. Wright
  • Thanks for sending snack each day!
  • Our library day is Monday.  Since we don't have school Monday it will be Tuesday of next week.  Don't forget to return your book.  :)
  • Breakfast is available for purchase from 8:00-8:15.  If you plan to have your child eat breakfast please have them here in time to do this in cafeteria.
  • Thanks for checking the Friday folder and returning it Monday.  This week there is information about our first field trip.  Please sign and return the form indicating what your child will do for lunch that day.  We need to let our cafeteria know so that they have time to order what we need. We are also looking for volunteers.  If you are available to help please let us know by returning the form.  Thanks!
