Butterflies!

We are proud to announce that Captain Underpants, (who turned out to be a girl) and Fluffy (who turned out to be a boy) successfully emerged from their Chrysalis into beautiful butterflies.  We were able to release them behind the school and Fluffy was kind enough to sit on each of our fingers for a short bit.  During one transition Lucas noticed that Fluffy was beginning to emerge.  We all gathered around the table and were able to witness this miraculous event.

Another noteable thing that happened this week was our first Citizen of the Month assembly.  Each month in a secret ballot our students each choose a person from our class that they feel is kind and makes good choices in school.  The winner is announced at a special assembly.  Here is our first citizen of the month!  Congrats friend!

 This week's learning objectives:
Reading:  Identifying words in text,  we found the color red in our poem.  One to One matching, using the picture for a clue
Writing:  Drawing a setting to add more details to the story
Math:  Counting, Saying numbers in order and knowing that when you count, each number is one larger than the previous number
Fundations:  Letter formation, ID and sound a,g
Science:  Life Cycle of a butterfly & germs

Our week in pictures:

Library Time!

We got to read with reading buddies!

Here is Captain Underpants in her Chrysalis.  We all thought it was amazing how you can see her wings!

Ms. Lister came down to help us tag Captain Underpants.  She will begin her journey to Mexico and hopefully someone will let us know where she ends up!

We found out she is a girl.  Females have thick black veins on their lower wings.

Goodbye Captain Underpants!
She flew away the second we opened the enclosure!

Round 2!  Here we are watching him emerge.

He's here!  Males have one small round oval shape on each of their lower wings.

Here we are getting ready to say goodbye.

Fluffy was a little more timid and let us each hold him!

Here is where we put him.  He wasn't quite ready to let us go.

 Goodbye!

We had a lot of butterfly excitement this week but we made some germs too!  We learned about how you must wash your hands to get rid of germs.  These cute germs will hang in our bathroom to remind us to wash our hands.
