We did it!!!!  We exceeded our goal!  We will get an official total after spring break when we can take the money to the bank.  Thank you so much to all that donated pennies, coins and dollars to our service learning project.  We will being making our clipboards for the kindergartners at Kohfeldt elementary when we return from spring break.

Even though the first week of spring felt like winter, it didn't stop us from having fun!  We started out week with the STEAM bus.  This bus is run by Craig Adams.   He brings the bus to the schools. The mission of the bus is to facilitate hands on project/problem-based learning for elementary teachers and students through the use of new ideas and technologies, while utilizing problem solving skills, creativity and imagination.  Our class listened to retelling of a story called, "Make Way for Ducklings".  Then we had to create nests complete with 8 eggs and a duck using Legos.  We had to make sure we knew exactly how many Legos we used.  It was super fun!

This week in fundations we learned a new spelling rule.  We learned that when the next letter is a a,o, or u you use a c first.  And if the next letter is an e or i you use a k first.  Here are some examples:  cat, cut, cot, kit, keep.  The kids were so excited about this new discovery that they wanted me to share it with you!

This week's learning objectives:
Reading:  word families, introduction to word endings: ing, s, ed
Writing:  We took our non-fiction writing assessment this week!
Math:  sorting money, counting coins, understanding how much coins are worth
Fundations:  Reading 3 letter words and nonsense words.  understanding when to use a k or c.

The Highlight Reel

I got to sub for the principals on Thursday.  While I miss being in the classroom with the kids, I so enjoy getting to see the school as a whole.  I also loved that I got to see their smiling faces at lunch.  They were so surprised to see me in there.

Kindergarten's service learning project is to help kindergarten classes at Kohfelt elementary.  Our penny drive is coming to a close.  We counted our pennies and loose change again.  When we counted a few weeks ago we had raised $90.  As of today we have collected $200.  We have ONE WEEK LEFT to collect change and our goal is $500!
With $200 we have enough to cover the cost of the clipboards we need to purchase and decorate but we are not sure if we have enough to cover the shipping cost.
We would also like to send each teacher an Amazon gift card to purchase activities for their literacy centers.  Clipboards and center activities were lost things and needed in the hurricane.
Thank you SO MUCH to those who have donated!  We appreciate donations of all sizes.  You can send pennies, change, bills or checks payable to CPS.
ONE WEEK TO GO!  WE CAN DO IT!
