A Rainbow of Fun!

We had a fantastic week and a fantastic day today!  Our field trip was great.  We learned all about the first floor of the public library.  Then we heard a story in the friends room.  Thank you to all that sent food in for us to try for our Rainbow day.  I was super impressed with the kids ability to try new foods.  I even heard several kids find a new food that they thought they didn't like before.  We played a rainbow game, we made rainbow chains, we ate the rainbow and we enjoyed a Sid the Science Kid about rainbows too.  It was a great way to kick off spring break.

Learning Objectives for the week:
Science:  Finding animals in the woods, where animals live
Reading:  Segmenting and Blending words, In reading group we worked on strategies:  check the picture, tap it out, cover it up and think what makes sense.  Some groups even learned about the bossy e!
Writing:  We took our writing assessment this week.  I am so pleased with their wonderful work.  It is truly amazing how much they have grown as learners since the beginning of the year.
Math:  Subtraction

Our week in pictures:

Matching Girls!

We took a walk on the first day of spring to look for animals.

This game is called disappearing train.  It's a game to help us practice subtraction.

On Wednesday we had maker space.  Mrs. Fitch taught us about Ozobots.  We were robot coders!

Here we go!  We're excited about the library!

Happy to go back too.

We read a book called, "The Name Jar".  In this book a little girl from Korea was trying to choose her american name.  She decided that her Korean name was the one she wanted to keep.  This friend showed us how to write her name in Korean!  So beautiful!

Congratulations to Mrs. Concannon!  She won Teacher of the year for K-2 with Columbia Public Schools.  We are so proud!

Check out this rainbow of food!  Isn't it gorgeous!

We sorted food into food groups and drew pictures of food to go with it.

Mrs. Birdsong came as a Mystery Reader.  I lost my voice so she was a huge help!

Here we are tasting the rainbow.

We made rainbow paper chains too.  Some of the kids decided they were caterpillars.

Our rainbow caterpillars

This friend was our special me this week.  He read his own book called, "The Book with No Pictures."  It was hilarious!!!  Great job friend!
Lots of laughs from the audience.

 Playing Roll a Rainbow.

We made place mats for our friends at Columbia Manor.  They are all about space!

Phew!  That was a busy and fun week.  Hope you have a fantastic break!  I'll see you all in a week!

Thank goodness for a little sun!  It makes a huge difference in our day when we can get out and run!  We had a busy week this week.  Thursday evening was math night and I loved seeing several of our kiddos there having fun.  Our class earned an extra choice time this week because we were the highest attendance in the school last week!  Lots of sickness is going around but our class seems to be mostly healthy.  We have germ X by our door and the kids can grab some anytime.  I'm going to try to be better about reminding them as well.

Here are our learning objectives for the week:
Reading:  Segmenting and blending real and non-sense words,
Writing:  Adding a beginning and ending to our non-fiction books
Math:  Addition, subtraction & categorizing
Science:  Living and Non-Living, Space

Enjoying a little computer time in the lab.

Library fun!

Learning about subtraction

This math group is learning some amazing addition!

Check out this cool tower this cutie built!

On Thursday we saw a group called "The Mother Singers".  They sing lots of fun songs and we really enjoyed ourselves.

We were really sweet that day!

Sorting things dogs, plants, and humans need to survive.

Our special me sharing her show and tell.

Congratulations to our Citizen of the Month!

Here we are trying out quail behavior.

We are pecking the ground like wood peckers here.

Columbia Manor retirement home requested place mats for their residents.  We shared what we learned about space by making space mats!  We will have these laminated and share them with the residents soon.

Responding to reading during reading group.

Have a great weekend!
