We had a week full of learning and fun! We began our twelve week unit learning about letters. Lots of our friends came knowing many letters and sounds. For this unit we focus a lot on how to form the letters the kindergarten way. We practice the letters in the air, on white boards and tracing them on paper with our fingers too.
We went to the library this week to learn about how we check out books. Our library day is always Monday or the first school day of the week. Enjoy those books and please return them on Tuesday.
Mrs. Fitch taught us about a math game that we will use our ipads for. We call it Jiji math. JiJi is the name of the penguin that helps them through the math skills. The kids are so excited several of them even exclaimed, "Jiji is my best friend!"
We had a birthday this week. Happy birthday friend! Thanks for sharing treats!
He lost a tooth too! Congrats!
We are so excited to have two new members join room 304. Here's Fred! We have Ginger too. One of our kindergarten helpers generously allowed these two skinks to be in our class this year. They are pink tongued skins. The kids noticed they look like a snake with legs. We love to take a peek at them when they come out of hiding each day. 
We even drew our new friends too.
In reading we worked on one to one matching. We read a poem called "I am me". We found words we know and also learned what an illustration is and then we illustrated this poem in our poetry journal. We also read three letter books. We used these books during read to self. We learned that during read to self our most important job is to read the whole time.
We talked about birthdays this week. We made a class age graph and also sorted our birthdays by month. We did lots of counting this week too.
In writing, we learned how to write the date on our page, how to color and how to draw a picture that tells a story. Several friends got to share their work with the class. Check out some of our awesome work!

Thank you so much to all the families that came to get the scoop night. I so enjoyed spending a little time with each of you and hearing all about your amazing children.
Please send a snack with your child each day. We have a little left over from the eclipse but they are quickly running out. I am saving that for kids that accidentally forget that day.
Please return the Friday Folder on Monday.
We will begin our day on Monday in the gym. Send your child to the gym with his or her backpack on when they arrive in the morning.
Thank you to all that have sent in crayon boxes. They are working out great!
