Literacy Centers here we come!

Friday, September 6, 2019
This week we continued to build routines.  This week we learned all about how to do each literacy center.  We learned about write the room, writing center, pocket chart, Starfall, ABC mouse, listen to reading, puzzles, library, handwriting, and word work.  We did them together as a class this week so we could learn the expectations for each center.  Next week, we will have a rotation.  One or two kids will be at each literacy center.  They will go to two centers a day until they have gone to all the centers throughout the week!   They are loving the learning activities this week and Daily 5 time is sure to become a favorite time of day.  We also began a program on the iPad called ST Math.  The kids call it JiJi Math.  Click here for more information.

Learning Objectives:
Reading:  One to One correspondence (Pointing to the words we read.) - We are getting good at this!
Writing:  What do good writers do?  (date, draw a person, make a horizon line, add details and color!)
Math:  categorizing birthdays, counting objects -
Fundations:  Letter ID, sound and formation, m & n.  Review t, b, f

Our week in pictures:

Learning about the library literacy center.

Every day we will spend some time reading quietly to ourselves.  This week we worked up to 7 minutes of quiet reading!  That's incredible!

These friends are doing write the room.  We have letters around the room.  They have to hunt for them and write the ones they find.  This helps practice letter formation and letter recognition.  We will move onto full words as well as beginning sounds, ending sounds and spelling full words.

This friend had lunch with the principal this week!  He was chosen for his awesome class behavior.  Way to go!

Here's the whole lunch with the principal crew!

Two little cuties enjoying their lunch.

Check out this awesome writing!  Here we learned how to color inside the lines and make thew white go away.

This friend is leading our class in fundations drills.  She says the letters and sounds and our class repeats them.

These friends are working on word work.  They are choosing a card, drawing the picture and the card and labeling their work with the word.

We learned about bus safety this week.  All of us will ride a bus this year for some field trips.

We even practiced getting off the back of the bus in case of an emergency.

Check out this awesome work!  These friends drew some amazing horizon lines.

Each of these friends is holding a letter and sound card.  The rest of the kiddos had to point to which ever card I suggested.  We did both letters and sounds.

This is our pocket chart literacy center.  We will be matching names to pictures!

Thursday was library day this week.  Each time we miss a Monday our library day will be Friday.  If you child forgets his/her book he/she can bring it to school the following day to trade.

Fun in the sun!

Here we are trying out ST math.

We made bees today.  We read a non-fiction book that compared and contrasted bees and wasps.  Ask your child to tell you some of the interesting facts we learned!  We will hang these outside our classroom door to go with our school theme.  Be U or Bee you :)!

We learned about counting this week.  Here are some of the counting towers we made.

We had some rare sibling sightings this week!

Have a great weekend!
